Lets rule out God for a minute and talk from a scientists point of view.
Think of our galaxy as a large oval disk, and our solar system being near one of the sides on the longer parts of this oval disk. Not in the center but almost on the edge of this disk, but then again, not quite.
Looking in direction A at a 90 degree angle, one can see stars but not that many of them. Now looking in direction B (the milkey way which is our solar system)at a 90 degree angle one see's a stripe of stars, that looks more concentrated then the rest of the sky.
The reason for this is that because our galaxy is like a large oval, and because we are at one of the ends of that oval near the perimeter of it, there is a higher concentration of stars. In direction A we still see stars, but because the universe started with the big bang, one direction has outreached further then the other.
Thing is scientists were baffled at one point about why in an infinite universe the sky in parts seemed darker then others when there would also be an infinite number of stars casting light onto the world, because there isn't much in the lights way to reach us here on earth.
Then the conclusion was reached that because of the big bang all the stars were rushing away from each other, some traveling at the speed of light, hence why we would not see the light cast from them.
When the universe has finished the explosion all the stars will slow down and evntually stop. But think of a ball being thrown up in the air, fast at first, eventually loses it's momentum, and then falls back down into your hand. The stars will follow this same pattern, and once they stop, they will collapse back into eachother and merge at the center of the universe.
Then there will be nothing stoping us from seeing all the stars in existance, because they will all be falling towards us filling the sky with a light tens of tousands of time brighter then our own sun. This is when we will know that it is the end of the world, because when you look up it will be impossible to keep your eyes open, you'll be looking into nothing but light.
Bringing God back into the conversation.
They say we may see a bright light right before we expire. People close to death and who have been revived say they saw a bright light at the end of a tunnel. A surge of light that seems almost overpowering to look at, and that if looking left or right during that experience, one would see a lesser degree of light, but light none the less.
Theory - When we die our souls travel to our maker, the universal spirit that animates and binds all things in existance. What we are witnessing in terms of the light at the end of the tunnel is the fury of stars still exploding, and beyond those stars is where our creator is expecting us. The light on the sides are stars passing by us at millions of miles per second,, for our souls are traveling at many multiples of C and at this speed one cannot focus or understand that the light that we see before we die are stars passing by us at speeds not possible for man himself.
It's late at night, my mind is on overdrive like it usually is before sleep, and this theory may be 180 degrees of it's mark. But for now, before I go to bed, I shall be comforted by the thought of making that journey and knowing that I am traveling out of the universe, passing all the stars in existance, going somewhere no mortal can.
I look forward to my end.
